Frequently Asked Questions

Does it support hot swap?

It depends on the port you are using. Thunderbolt 4 supports Hot Swap, so you can connect BoostR while your device is on. But OCuLink does NOT support Hot Swap, you have to connect BoostR while your device is off.

Is BoostR compatible with Steamdeck or ROG Ally?

BoostR is Not compatible with Steamdeck and Rog Ally. Technically you can use the M.2 port to connect the OCuLink with an adapter, but it would be complicated and inconvenient.

How do I download the GPU driver?

You can search "RX 7600M XT driver" and download it on the AMD website, just like a normal graphics card.

If an SSD is installed in BoostR, will it affect GPU performance since the GPU has to share bandwidth with the SSD?

The SSD won't consume much bandwidth, with little to no impact on eGPU. You can also connect the eGPU with OCuLink, SSD data transfer will go through the Thunderbolt 4 port then.

What types of SSDs does BoostR support and what are their speeds?

BoostR supports M.2 2280 NVME SSD; 2242 and 2230 can also be used with adapters. The speed is PCIe 3.0.

What are the bandwidths of OCuLink and USB4.0, and what are the differences between them?

The bandwidth of the OCuLink interface is 63Gbps, and USB 4.0 is 40Gbps; OCuLink connection bandwidth is almost lossless, while USB4.0 connection has about a 15% loss in bandwidth.

What computer configurations are compatible with BoostR?

Any computer equipped with Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4, as well as an Oculink interface, is compatible with BoostR.

Can the fan curve of BoostR be adjusted?

No, it cannot be adjusted.

What are the speeds of the SSD in the ADD-ON for the BoostR?

All models use PCIe 3.0 SSDs

What is the data transfer method and maximum theoretical transfer speed of M.2 (PCle 3.0 SSD) on BoostR?

SSD and GPU can share the OCuLink or USB4.0 interface; the SSD's maximum theoretical transfer speed is 8Gbps

Is it possible for BoostR to charge devices?

Yes, BoostR can charge any device with a Type-C interface, supporting the PD fast charging protocol with a maximum output of 60W

When connected via both the Oculink and USB 4 interfaces, which devices are connected by BoostR through which port?

USB4 cable: All BoostR interfaces (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-A, RJ45, M.2) are fully functional. Oculink cable: HDMI/DisplayPort active, others inactive due to bandwidth limit. Oculink + USB4: GPU uses Oculink's bandwidth; USB4 handles USB-A, RJ45, M.2 data.

What brand of SSD will you be using?

1TB and 2TB will use Kingston. 4TB brand is still to be determined.

When will BoostR begin shipping?

What color will the BoostR come in?

We will release the black and grey variant.

What is the warranty on the BoostR?

There's a one year warranty. Buyer is responsible for shipping back to us in the even that the unit needs to be repaired. We fully tested the quality and we'll have a rigorous testing process, so there probably won't be any issues.
